Veronica Mars - Rat Saw God

Rat Saw God, the latest episode of Veronica Mars, was another fantastic episode. It revisited plotlines and characters from last year, while developing the mysteries of this season.
It was great to see the return of several pivotal people. The resolution to the saga of Able Koontz (Christian Clemenson) and Amelia was tragic, but fitting. I loved the appearance of the awesomely intimidating Clarence Weidman (Christopher B. Duncan). It was amazing to see how, after being at loggerheads all last season, he and Veronica (Kristen Bell) worked together. They made a great team, even though she finds some of his methods quite repugnant. Another welcome return was that of the wonderfully creepy Aaron Echolls (Harry Hamlin). There’s such an interesting dynamic between him and Logan (Jason Dohring).
Speeking of Logan, there was an abundance of him in this episode. He had some great scenes and some very humourous lines. It seems a tad strange the guy from the bridge would take so long to come forward after Logan was found not guilty. It did, however, mean that we got to see more of lawyer Cliff (Daran Norris), whose demeanour and great lines certainly are entertaining. I also enjoyed the appearance of Weevil (Francis Capra) and his interaction with Logan. The interaction between them brings to the forefront a key aspect of Logan’s personality – retaliation. Logan always has to fight back, even if it puts him in harm’s way.
Another great moment was when Veronica mistook Logan for Duncan (Teddy Dunn), which makes me wish all the more that LoVe was back on screen. There was a good use too of meta humour about Duncan’s constant wearing of argyle – seriously, does he not have anything else in his wardrobe?
I should also mention the appearance of Joss Whedon. I’d heard he was going to be in the episode, but I didn’t even pick up on who his was during my initial viewing. While I like his shows, I’m not one of those that worship the man. Still, he did a pretty good job.
I particularly liked the last line about well intentioned lines. It really sums up the entire show and Veronica’s life – well intentioned lies to find out the truth or to stop people from being hurt. Also, Keith’s (Enrico Colantoni) discovery of the rat under the seat is very strange – it must be the smell that Dick (Ryan Hansen) complained about in the pilot.
Veronica Mars will not be airing next week, but it should be back on the week after. Sigheth.
