Veronica Mars: Nevermind the Buttocks
March 9th 2007 05:21
I'm going to attempt to catch up with the reviews I missed, starting with the Veronica Mars episode Nevermind the Buttocks. It contained a lot of intriguing developments that are likely to be pertinent to the ongoing mysteries of the season.
It appears that Kendall Casablancas (Charisma Carpenter) is not who she seems, and is in fact more calculating than I had given her credit for. She is using the name of a classmate that she killed, possibly on purpose. She has committed and served time for fraud, and now the Fitzpatricks are somewhat indebted to her. In addition to all of this, in the event of the simultaneous deaths of Dick (Ryan Hansen) and Beaver (Kyle Gallner), she stands to gain a whopping 8-figure payout. That certainly takes the archetype of the evil stepmother to a whole new level. I doubt that Beaver/Cassidy had any inkling of Kendall's ways when he enlisted her help in his business, and it seems that he is playing a very dangerous game.
The confrontation between Keith (Enrico Colantoni) and Liam Fitzpatrick (Rodney Rowland) was very intense, and I truly feared that maybe Keith's time was up. Thankfully Veronica (Kristin Bell) had the foresight to remove the bullets from the gun, thus saving her father's life. The realization and connection between Keith and Veronica upon their escape was wonderful; they know that this is what their lives are, and that there needs to be trust between them for both their sakes.
Speaking of the Fitzpatricks, the PCHers are now out from under their thumb thanks to Weevil (Francis Capra). I can see why he did not want to return to the gang - the betrayal by his boys has obviously hurt him, and the events of the previous year have been stained by violence and death.
I enjoyed seeing Gia Goodman (Krysten Ritter) again - I’m convinced that she is quite mad, but her antics are usually enjoyable. As Gia was the only one who saw the 'pressed ham,' I can’t help but wonder what exactly was going on inside that limo. Another question remains - who was it that tipped off Veronica about the green Barracuda?
I was quite surprised to hear that Aaron Echolls (Harry Hamlin) had won an Oscar - he has never stuck me as an actor with a particularly wide range, but then again the Academy Awards are not always an accurate recognition of talent. Obviously Kendall planted Duncan's hair on the statute as part of the quid pro quo agreement, presumably in an attempt to frame Duncan for the crime. The odd thing is the fact that Lily’s blood is present - I can't imaging any way of procuring such a sample, so perhaps it really was the murder weapon? My memory is a little fuzzy, but I don't think the ashtray that she was supposedly killed with had any blood on it, as it was found in the swimming pool. Is this all set up, or is last year's ending not as clear as it once seemed?

Dusk, coincidentally, I've just been over in your neck of the woods. I'm going to try and be around as much as I can, although it probably won't be as much as I was before.

I actually saw the start of this episode and got a little bit bored and turned it off. I was a bit surprised, usually this show is anything but boring. But then I had missed a few episodes.
Anyway, great review. Good to see you again!
