Veronica Mars: Look Who's Stalking

March 15th 2007 05:51
Look Who’s Stalking, the latest episode of Veronica Mars, was filled with many entertaining moments and important revelations. Season two may be drawing ever-closer to its climax, but the solutions to the year’s mysterious remain elusive.

In quite an unexpected turn of events, Veronica (Kristin Bell) has chlamydia. STDs are rarely dealt with on television, particularly teen shows – The OC’s Ryan and Marissa would have been prime candidates, with their numerous exploits – so kudos to the writers for tackling the issue.
As far as we know, Duncan (Teddy Dunn) has been Veronica’s only sexual partner, so presumably she would have contracted it from him. The question is, where did he get it from? Considering the pure and angelic light in which she was bathed, it’s unlikely that Meg (Alona Tal) was a carrier. My guess is that Duncan did, in fact, sleep with Kendall (Charisma Carpenter), who gave him the disease. If Kendall is the cause of illness, then one would assume that Logan (Jason Dohring) is infected as well.

While I’m not sure where exactly the writers are going with the chlamydia plot point, I’m glad Duncan’s character is being revisited. He left on rather a high note, and the reason behind his odd and secretive behaviour was never rectified. This discovery brings into question his actions, and perhaps we will discover that there is more to Duncan than meets the eye.

The stalking plotline was well executed, and I liked that the fate of Leo (Max Greenfield) was revealed, even though I’m not particularly fond of the character.

Gia as filmed by Lucky*
It turns out that Lucky (James Jordan) has been the one videotaping Woody (Steve Guttenberg) and Gia Goodman (Krysten Ritter). I can’t decide if he was actually intending to hurt Gia, or was really just showing off. Infuriatingly, he didn’t end up conveying to Keith (Enrico Colantoni) the secret behind what Woody ‘really is.’ It’s very strange that he was bailed out by the Mannings – we know that they were apparently trying to set him up with Meg, but how far does their relationship go?

Woody’s actions continued to be strange during the episode. Given the fact that the woman left the emergency room without being treated, it seems that the whole situation may have been a set up. It may have been the work of someone who was anti-incorporation, or it may have been Woody himself. If this was Woody’s doing, what, exactly, was he trying to prove?

We have also discovered that the theft of Cliff’s (Daran Norris) briefcase was orchestrated by Aaron Echolls (Harry Hamlin), courtesy of his former cellmate. I assume that there was information on the Lilly Kane murder that Aaron needed in order to frame Duncan. However, considering the fact that Cliff was representing Logan, the other possibility is that Aaron is making it look as if Logan has framed Duncan. Judging by the terrible acts that the Oscar winner has already committed, I doubt he would even bat an eyelid at framing his own son.
In other parental developments, the truth about Terrence (Jeffrey Sams) and his game-fixing has been leaked to the press. The obvious culprits would be the parents of the jilted Ms Dumass (Naima Mora), but perhaps someone else knows more than they are letting on?

I enjoyed the whole Alterna-Prom sequence, even if it was little more than a plot device for the later events of the night. I loved the shout-out to Mac (Tina Majorino) and Madison (Amanda Noret) being switched at birth, as they mirrored each other when getting off the elevator. Mac’s absolute abhorrence of Butters (Adam Hendershott) was absolutely hilarious, as were his geeky and nervous ramblings. Veronica’s not-so-subtle mockery of Madison’s fling with Sheriff Lamb (Michael Muhney) was equally amusing.

Of course, the highlight of the episode was the LoVe scenes. Logan drunkenly confessed that he still loves Veronica, and that their story is epic. Logan had been building to this moment all season; having lost Hannah (Jessy Schram) made him realize that he is about to lose Veronica too. It’s not surprising that Veronica was scared away – her feelings for Logan have always been there, but she couldn’t stand to watch him self-destruct. It was absolutely heartbreaking when she came back to see him, only to find that he didn’t remember his words. The work from both actors in that final scene was just fantastic. Considering the whole night is a blur, I wonder if Logan remembers inviting Kendall around as well? Did she turn up on her own, with an ulterior motive? With only two episodes left, I’m sure her endgame will soon become apparent.

Great review!

I know the Chlamydia plotline is resolved in the finale, but it also gets a good mention in tonight's episode.

I was so lost last Friday without my VM... glad it's back tonight. And going straight into Season 3 after next week! Whoo!

Hi Platypus - great to see you again! I felt a bit lost without it too - I even considered staying up, just in case I'd gotten it wrong and it was on. I'm thrilled that Ten are moving straight into Season 3 - I need my VM fix!

Thanks Kylie. I'm really looking forward to the next two episodes. I'm not that happy at the moment though - word has it that Veronica Mars has not been renewed for a fourth season

Dusk, I had every intention of coming back and posting frequently - then, of course, life got in the way! I've posted another Heroes recap today - I'm quite behind, and would really like to get up to date.

By the way, I missed you too!
