Nostalgia syndrome has also infected Channel Seven

There is new evidence that nostalgia programming is a spreading disease, infecting other timeslots and channels. As if Channel Nine’s continuous barrage of it wasn’t enough, Channel Seven have decided to jump on the bandwagon.
Seven yesterday announced that its new show, That’s Gold, will premiere on Sunday 15th of October. It will take the audience through memorable moments in TV’s 50 year history, including comedy, sport, bloopers, drama and entertainment.
What a refreshingly original concept – it’s not like we’ve seen any shows like that throughout the year! No, of course not…
What a ridiculous move by Seven. As I mentioned in my post yesterday, people are sick of these reflective looks at time gone by. This is cemented by the fact that, apparently, What A Year was a complete and utter flop. I can’t say I’m particularly surprised – the ratings for all of Nine’s nostalgia programming are beginning to slide.
I suspect the networks see these shows as an easy way to fulfil their Australian content provisions. How about, instead of re-running old footage over and over, they get to work on creating some new Australian shows for us to enjoy? Decent, enjoyable shows that I’ll want to see clips from - when I’m old enough to actually watch nostalgia programming.
