New Comedy from GNW Productions

For those still mourning the loss of The Glass House, fear not - a saviour has come forth to fill the emptiness in your hearts, and, of course, make you laugh. A new topical comedy programme created by GNW productions will appear on the ABC in 2007. The man behind the new weekly one-hour series is Ted Robinson, who is best known for his work on the iconic comedies The Big Gig and Good News Week.
The Glass House
A new comedy will fill the void left by The Glass House

The word over at Australian Comedy Forum MOSH! is that the show will be in the vein of the Big Gig. The ABC's press release seems backs up this assertion, stating that it will feature sketch comedy, stand up and musical performances. No word on a title or air date yet, but nevertheless the show is a ray of hope for Australian Comedy.

Another interesting tidbit from the press release comes from Big Gig alumni Wendy Harmer. She's set to host a 4 part series entitled Stuff. It remains to be seen exactly what stuff will be included, but I'm hopeful that the show will be entertaining.

It's also been announced that the ABC will be vodcasting 20 to 25 programmes each week. This decision follows the trial vodcast of The Chaser's War On Everything last year. It's a trend that hopefully the major networks will follow, but one can't expect too much when speaking of free to air TV...

Good to see some new stuff coming in 2007 and not just losing those hours of Australian content just disappear. I hear that the ABC has more money this year to develop more Australian content. About bloody time.

Love & stuff

Mrs M: The Australian productions that ABC have in the works certainly sound like they have potential. It's just a shame that the networks don't appear to be following suit.

Cibby: It's tough when a show you love is yanked from the air. Hopefully this new show will help ease the pain.

Ahhhh, I've been wondering actually whetheror not they would ever show repeats of the Big Gig one day, or are they considered to be too outdated?

I await the replacement Big Gig, at least the Glasshouse void is still being replaced by comedy.

I've seen some adds for "Stuff" it looks quite interesting - it's about all the stuff we have in our houses and collect - why we buy them and why we don't throw them away etc.

MelissaA: I don't think that they'll be showing repeats of the Big Gig anytime soon, because, as you said, it is considered too outdated. It might appear in a graveyard timeslot on the Comedy Channel (DAAS Kapital was on for a while) but they'll probably opt for newer shows instead.

I'm hoping this new show is good; I've liked all the GNW productions so far so I have high hopes.

I was more annoyed about the BIG GIG when it was still in fashion - they never showed repeats and I used to miss half of a lot of them due to other commitments.

Roll on the new shows!
