Programming News - Horrorific Idol Spawn and the Blitz gets Blitzed
November 15th 2006 06:02
As the ratings year ends and summer begins, more and more programming news is leaking from the networks, gushing forth and forming waves of mediocrity. Here are a few of the more interesting programming titbits.
Rove may have decided not to return to the air again this year, but Peter Hellier will present a ‘Best of’ Rove Live as a season finale. It will run for 2 hours, starting at 8.30pm on the 28th of November.
Continuing with Network Ten, some of you may have already seen the advertisements for the new series of Australian Princess, set to air over summer. Why anyone would want to become like these unpleasant, pompous and seemingly inbred people is beyond me, but I suppose the grass is always greener.
The OC and the Biggest Loser will continue into the summer ratings period, as well as new series such as American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. Ridiculously, the series of American Idol that will air began broadcasting in America in January 2006! While I’m not a fan of the Idol shows, I can understand the appeal of watching a foreign country’s version around the time that it happens. But seriously, this originally aired almost a year ago, and we all know that Idol-dom lasts about as long as milk left out on an Australian Christmas day. I just can’t see why they are bothering.
As for So You Think You Can Dance and the other spawn of the Idol phenomenon, it really is a great argument against cloning.
In other news, Channel Nine has axed the lifestyle programme Backyard Blitz. It seems a bit of an unusual move considering the ratings of the show, as well as its Logie success. However, this is Channel Nine we’re talking about, so I’m guessing no logic entered into the decision. The failing network probably could no longer afford the water for the plants required by the show.
