Star Wars: The Clone Wars
October 4th 2008 05:33
Well, folks, the first episodes of the new Star Wars: The Clone Wars have hit the air tonight, and I was pleasantly entertained by both episodes. But, in all fairness, I liked the movie, too, although I felt it did have its flaws, one of which I sort of understand. Gone is the trailing script at the beginning of a Star Wars, any Star Wars, up until these new animated series. This was done, mainly, so as to give a solid voice over for children to hear, in case they were too young to read. It makes sense, but I wish we could have had the voice over reading the trailing text.
Both episodes were done quite well, with anyone who is a fan of Yoda getting his Jedi on getting more of what they wanted. Plus, the mischevious Yoda was there, too, with that classic giggle. Also, we see a lot more development with the clones, which I was enjoying, as it shows how both the Clones and the Jedi were victims of Order 66, since the Jedi, many Jedi, saw the Clones as much more than simple tools.
For a cartoon series, which perhaps is a sign of the times, it handles some very mature subject matter, death, and although it is often a clean or faceless death, it is still there for the viewer to question. We see the nobility of serving a cause greater than the self, but we also see the importance of exercising the individual, the self, when it comes to orders. Master Plo Koon's connection with Ahsoka, as well as his own troops, showed this very well.
I grew up as a fan of Star Wars, I watch the original trilogy several times a year, as well as owning several different formats and versions, and once it hits BluRay, I'll own it then, too. In fact, it is the reason I plan on buying a BluRay player (most likely a PS3). However, that doesn't mean I won't question certain things, for good or bad, or point out what I object to. While I enjoyed the Ewok movies a bit, I still feel that we should have gotten real Star Wars and not just cutesy stuff. I won't even go into the Life Day song, poor Carrie Fisher.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars definitely has a safe spot, for now, in my DVR, unlike Knight Rider, which got ditched due to my disliking it so much and it being stuck between Bones and Pushing Daisies. Sorry, KITT, even with Val Kilmer voicing you, I just couldn't put up with that crap.
Anyhow, long live Star Wars, now if only JJ sets the stage for a solid Trek resurgence, then I'll be a happy nerd indeed. It'd be like a hundred browsers clicking on the the ads at once. *chuckles* Well, enough placating the masses, although clicking ads wouldn't hurt me any, it's up to you folk if you do or do not. Okay?
I'm just here to voice my thoughts on shows, good and bad, and have a good time. Carry on!
