What The...? Rove to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno
May 1st 2007 09:49
As many of you may already be aware, Rove McManus is set to make an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. The pint-sized Australian host will feature on Tuesday night's episode, which will subsequently air in Australia on Wednesday.
It seems a little odd that Rove is appearing on the show - after all, it is the norm for guests to have some modicum of recognition with a US audience. He apparently was invited by one of the producers, so evidently they think he is a worthy of gracing the iconic set.
What I simply can't envision is how the interview will progress. It won't be an easy task for Rove, considering the entire audience will have no clue who he is. Rove may be the cream of our talk show crop, but that isn't a huge achievement when there is virtually no competition. Will he be able to hold his own against Jay? Only time will tell
I will certainly be tuning in to satisfy my curiosity. Will Rove win over American audiences with his cheeky charm? Or will they be disappointed by the tiny Australian man? Will he strike a blow for Australian television, or will he simply confirm that our industry really is abysmal?
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, featuring Rove McManus, will air Wednesday 11pm on the Comedy Channel.

unti Rove ...
Mc(un)Man-us
He is the biggest tosser I've seen on TV ...
A few minutes of his program was enough to never want to ever watch it again ...
So far up himself he's in danger of turning inside out ...

I'm still giggling at that one!
Rove has said that his role model is Bert Newton. No wonder he's the way he is!

Hmmm...considering that most...okay...all of our TV hosts take their 'act' from the American TV hosts, this should be interesting.
I mean...Steve Vizard was a Jay Cloneo...and David to the Letterman...
Unfortunately Rove is just not funny but I'm hoping he has a rare moment.
He's got my sympathy vote at the moment.
I have watched him a few times...only because of some of his guests and I've just cringed.
Why isn't Adam Hill getting interviewed???
He's a much better ambassador.
Rove is an embarassador...
Was that too harsh? Maybe...but...it's true...
Hope you're well Ninabelle.

I too would like to see Adam Hills being interviewed on the show, or maybe even Andrew Denton. Both of them really deserve a higher overseas profile.
Good to see you, as always, Dusk.

I'm not sure this'll be good viewing. Rove isn't a good interviewer, and I'm not sure how he'll go as an interviewee.
I personally don't find Rove at all funny. His humour is quite parochial and is based a lot on what we already know about him.....so I think a lot of it may be lost on an American audience.
Then again, Jay Leno's been in the business forever, so hopefully he'll help guide Rove!
And I agree with you Dusk....i LOVE Adam Hills. He should be on Leno.

I find Rove funny, probably because i'm younger (18) but that shouldn't really make a difference. Adam Hills is a comedian, and honestly, to me, not that funny. Yet again perhaps thats the age difference..
you all seem to be in your 30's in which case i suggest watching something like, well, the news. It seems as though it takes alot to make you people laugh, in which case it might be best to give up on life or simply work on your sense of humor. In any case i find Leno generic and yes he's funny but merely to an extent.

It doesn't take much to make me laugh - your words gave me a bit of a giggle, and I suspect that your comment was intended to be tongue in cheek. Do you understand such an old fashioned phrase?
Comedy is an extremely subjective thing, and I am sure there is something out there for every taste, without one having to resort to the news.

rove currently is one of my favorite things to watch. it's hard though since i don't live in australia and can only see them online. that being said, i don't know the popularity or knowledge of the show in the us since it's not really part of our routine.
