My Thoughts on SciFi's Sanctuary
October 21st 2008 02:28
So, I've been holding off on talking about the SciFi channels newest show, Sanctuary, mainly because I've been watching it since last year, when it was the online show "Sanctuary for All." It was an interesting way to backdoor a pilot, I think, as it build up a fan-base, who then sponsored the show by buying into the subscription for the series, which fueled it growing into something more. Now, it is on television and has went through the early episodes that it had originally aired, as well as some that it made, but did not air until now.
It's an okay show, but it still needs some more ground to stretch it's legs before I'll say whether it's great or a must see. The concept is interesting enough, about a place where the truth behind urban legends, cryptozology, and other mysteries are studied, helped, and, in some needed cases, imprisoned. The proprietor, perhaps proprietrix is more proper, is a centuries old woman who does not age, her butt-kicking daughter, a skeptical criminal profiler, and Bigfoot.
Yeah, that Bigfoot. It's kinda cool, actually, and he happens to be a pretty lead-footed driver, too.
Anyhow, the show has some interesting ideas and concepts, not to mention Stargate SG-1's Amanda Tapping, it's Sanctuary being picked up that caused he abrupt exit from Atlantis, by the way. I'm still getting use to the accent, plus it might actually be closer to her own accent, so who knows.
If you're a fan of Spring-Heeled Jack, Bigfoot, Witches, Lake Monster, or any other subject that would fit into a night of talk with Art Bell, George Noory, or Ian Punnett on Coast to Coast AM, then you'd definitely like the show. But, fair warning, their take can sometimes be a bit different, but in a good way.

yellow and white pollen like spores coming from their manky mouths on grizzled rotting faces. There's a bad breath joke in there somewhere, They could make out that it has something to do with the origin of the Neckre illness or an early experiment to cure the illness. Failed of course, then they could add the complications. E,g fire kills the host, but inflames the spores making them more virulent and infectious, bullets cause blood spatter obvious problem. Braking their necks could still work, baseball bats crowbars etc but the problem there is getting close enough without getting bitten breathed on or scratched. Finnaly an unusuall solution to imobalise and contain them. An antidote to the polen sporse injected with trank guns some form of antihistemeen gas steroide based so we can have a joke about zombies on meth or something like that and then sealed oil barrels filled with water, possibly salt water and a solar power cell or battery. Zombie in the barrle water to contain them electrical current to imobalise the salt to conduct through the dead creature & preserve it for future study. Maybe they could give somethig ellss in Sanctuary the ability to sense them at a disstance and react in fear. Say the Nubbins for example the natural prey of infected annimals if the virus has been around for a long time. oh and don't forget another Nubbins joke about that blonde again or maybe at Magnus this time. If the show uses my idea they should credit it to my writters name Russel Nash. If that creates copy write problems with the Highlander franchise my real name is John Sturdy.
