Television's Hottest Couples
February 21st 2007 12:30
Television's romantic pairings are funny things. Many couples just aren't believable. Others really are quite cute together. Then there are those duos that fall into another category entirely, with chemistry so intense that they could fulfil the Earth's energy needs for the next thousand years. Today's post delves into the superficial - the hottest couples on TV.
The factors that determine what make a sizzling partnership cannot be defined, and it is often the most unlikely characters that have the most sparks. Perhaps there is an element of the forbidden that makes the relationship all the more intense. Writers may have their own ideas about who is meant to be, but often the attraction (or lack thereof) between two actors will railroad these plans. Below are the couples that light my screen on fire.
Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) and Michael Vaughn (Michael Vartan) - Alias
From the outset, it was obvious that this double agent and her handler were attracted to each other. Their secretive meetings were always filled with unexpressed longing and desire - two people unable to speak in public, let alone get involved. Then, with the fall of SD-6 in Phase One, everything changed. Who didn't cheer when these two finally locked in a passionate embrace, amidst the sparking wreckage of what had held them apart?
Veronica Mars (Kristin Bell) and Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring) - Veronica Mars
Despite the fact that they are still in high school, Veronica and Logan's often volatile relationship is practically electric. After Lily's death the former friends became estranged, but in their snark and sniping there was an underlying sense of attraction. Through the events of the series, they started to understand each other and connect. Weapons of Class Destruction saw the pair finally act on their feelings, and LoVe truly blossomed.
Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Spike (James Masters) - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The relationship between Buffy and Spike was the epitome of forbidden love - that between the slayer and a vampire. The territory was not new for the show; Angel was Buffy's first love interest, but the difference lay in the presence of his soul. That may have been a redeeming feature in Buffy’s eyes, but it was one of boredom in mine. Spike and Buffy may not have been a story of true love, but it certainly was one of ultimate attraction. This pair tops the list purely for their encounter in Smashed - a love scene so passionate that they literally brought down the house.
What other couples would qualify for the list? What is it about a television couple that makes them truly ‘hot'?

I also tune in mostly to documentaries, or to my other draw, hauntings. That being said, the closest I can get to "couples" is national geographic's expose on sex in wildlife, or how a spirit haunts a hotel looking for her long lost love. *LOL*

Sydney and Vaughn...absolutely.
Buffy and Spike...made the earth move...
...and the last episode I watched of VM, V was about to get down and dirty with Logan in his guesthouse but then she found the hidden cameras and she ran for it and her biker friend picked her up...I stopped watching VM because of all the programming changes.
So I take it VM and Logan did get down and dirty?
Hmmm...okay....I have only watched a few episodes but I like the chemistry between Bones (um...don't know her name) and Booth (David Boreanaz)...
She's all fact and he's all instinct.
And together they're just...I don't know...electric.
This may be strange but....Grissom and his Lady Dominatrix...before he CSI-ed her. And okay it was only a 2 episode thing but she was his intellectual match and more and he was whipped...not literally...by her.
And I do not know the character's name but the lawyer guy Lily was seeing in 'Cold Case'...when they first kissed...ouch...
Also...Big and Carrie in 'SATC'...don't care what anyone says, their chemistry sizzled, especially when they became good friends and left the angst behind.
I liked Monica and Chandler, 'Friends', together....
And Colin Friels and oh what was her name, the woman who was his partner, in 'Water Rats'.
Um...can't think of anyone else....right now...
Hope you're well Ninabelle.

Celebrity Obsession
I totally agree with these 3. I loved the whole Sidney/Vaughan thing on Alias (though eventually it got a little old).
And LoVe......get them back together as soon as possible. I loved them.
As for Buffy & Spike....way more interesting than Angel and Buffy. I love Spike.
Another great couple - oldie but a goodie is David Addison (Bruce Willis) and Maddie Hayes (Cybil Shepard) from Moonlighting - these were probably the first tv couple I loved. Total opposites with great chemistry.

What about Mork and Mindy? I guess that doesn't count. What about ... um ... Three's Company? LOL I think I've got the wrong end of the stick ....

Not a fan of those listed, but a fun topic for sure...
I was going to say Maddie and David in Moonlighting straight away, my favourite couple ever on the small screen.
The other one that always springs to mind is Sherriff Buck ("thats spelt with a B") and Selena Cooms (Brenda Bakke) in American Gothic.
Hart (Robert Wagner) to Hart (Stephanie Zimblast-bad spelling) amused as well, but wouldn't call them hot, more like Max and 99..
Seth Bullock (Timothy Olyphant) and Alma Garrett (Molly Parker) on DeadWood rank as hot.
Although she is generic looking the romance between Guyus Baltar and #6 on Battlestar is quite fun, escpecially when Lucy Lawless joins for the threesome!
On the geek tip, Curzon Dax and Worf on Star Trek DS9 were hot and heavy, also a good laugh.
And what could be hotter than the Bionic Man (Lee Majors) and The Bionic Woman (Lindsay Wagner)?

Veronica and Logan stayed together a bit longer, but broke up because of Logan's destructive tendencies. I don't think they went all the way as such, but these two have real chemistry. I hope that they will get back together sometime soon.

Are there any horror flick couples that you think could fall into the truly hot category?

I just got the 'LoVe' thing...
Totally agree with 'Hart to Hart' JD...because Robert Wagner (Jonathon) and Stefanie Powers (Jennifer) were close friends in real life, this cameraderie really 'glowed' onscreen....and I think they were hot, plus Jennifer was a journalist cum detective and I'm a journalist cum delusional so we have a lot in common....giggle....
And yes KW! David and Maddie before they moonlighted under the sheets...
And how could I have forgotten Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) and John Steed (Patrick Macnee) from 'The Avengers'????
Totally cool...not sure if they qualify as couple hot because they weren't technically a couple because she was Mrs Peel...Mr Peel was lost somewhere and he had some supercool job...but still Peel and Steed were hot!
Hope you're well Ninabelle...enjoy the last weekend of Summer....sob...I love Summer...
