Time Travel - Heroes Episodes To Screen Directly After the US

July 5th 2007 23:49
In good news for Heroes fans, Channel Seven has announced that it will be screening the new season of the show directly after it airs in the US.

The same will be done for Prison Break. This should mean that new episodes will hit our screens in late September or early October.

This is a great move for both fans and the network itself. Viewers can be up to date with the most recent happenings without having to download the episodes. It is also a blessing for those of us who frequently online discussion pages and websites, as it reduces the chance of inadvertently reading spoilers. As for the network, it should result in better ratings, and a far better sense of goodwill with their audience. The only downside is that we may have to contend with the various hiatus that occur in American screenings, but hopefully they should fit in fairly well with the Summer and Easter non-ratings periods.

This move by Seven is not a new one - Network Ten tried it last year with Jericho and The OC. Both received extremely poor ratings, and the remainder of Jericho has yet to be screened. Hopefully Seven's two programmes can avoid such a fate - they have a reasonably strong following, and unless both jump the shark, that base is likely to keep watching. Even if the ratings aren't up to Seven's expectations, it would be in their best interests to keep broadcasting the shows. It is cruel to give us a taste of being up to date, and then rip it away, and it will only further the animosity already felt towards the networks in general.

Um....I know this is bad but...it's so much fun!...

Hiya Ninabelle...

How are you honey? Good to 'see' you. Are you on holiday from Uni?

I started watching a bit of the episode last night but...because I haven't been watching...I switched it off. I do not want to spoil my marathon 'Heroes' session!...hopefully the Season 1 DVD set comes out before Season 2 airs.
(when does it get released?)

I hope you're well pretty TV Babble-ina...

big hug

I was just over at your place, Dusk. I am on holiday from Uni at the moment, although I still haven't been able to get to Orble as often as I would like.

The Heroes Season One DVD is set to be released in Australia on the 5th of September - so if you watch them all in a marathon session, you would be able to get them out of the way before the new season. Believe me, the show is so addictive, it would be hard not to watch them all in one sitting!

Great to 'see' again, Dusk.

YATTA indeed!

This schedule will make things a lot better for the majority of viewers.

Will this stop people who are currently downloading the episodes from doing so? I don't think so. Regardless of how soon Channel 7 airs the episodes after Nth America, there is still going to be a delay and those impatient enough will still go and download it.

And they're completely ad free as well...

Good News, maybe the Commercial stations are listening to us...wil be godo if they follow through on the promise...though I will still be putting them on DVd so I can get rid of the ads.

Nina,

I actually watched the final episode of Heroes this week and saw this news.....and thought of you when I heard it. It is good news.

I can't believe I watched the final episode when I haven't seen an episode since about episode 4!! But I just couldn't help myself!

Charles, whether this stops people downloading is going to be up to the individual. I, personally, don't mind the ads that much. I usually watch these shows with my brother, and the breaks allow us a couple of minutes to discuss the happenings of each act - although most of the time it is just me gushing about the latest developments while he rolls his eyes at me

JohnDoe, my biggest concern is that, like Network Ten, Seven will pull the plug and we'll be back to being months behind. Hopefully this move will be successful, and it will be the beginning of a trend amongst these types of shows.

Kylie, did you enjoy the finale? I can't imagine it would have made much sense without seeing the other episodes! Still, when you have your marathon viewing, you will know where the plotlines are leading.

Josh, the internets are a wonderful thing, a great series of tubes. I would probably download more if it didn't mean that my speed gets throttled down to nothing - damn Bigpond.
I'm curious though - will a move such as this affect your downloading habits?

I just don't know why if they can release it around the same time as the US, why don't they do it for all the shows?

There are many shows that are like that, like with Stargate we are a whole season behind the US and the rest of the world... Why?

Australians have the highest download rate because we are sick of the TV networks taking their time to release the shows while our American and European friends see it months ahead.

I have stopped watching TV shows on the TV now for this reason, plus because they put the good TV shows on late at night. Stargate usually being aired here at 11pm.

However i am thankful that they are doing it with Heroes as thats one of my favourite shows at the moment.

Mavryk, it is so frustrating knowing that the networks can do this, but choose not to. I suspect the reasons are mostly monetary, or that the shows don't fit well with our ratings periods.

It frustrates me to no end when good shows are shoved into late night slots or disappear completely - particularly when we've had to wait an age to get them in the first place!
